What is KUTS?

The Kerrville Urban Trail System (KUTS) is a non-profit grassroots organization that promotes walkability, community vibrancy and cohesion among businesses and people through a system of independent walking/biking trails in districts throughout Kerrville.

KUTS - Clay South

Clay South is the pilot trail project, extending from Depot Square at Schreiner Street to the Kerrville Farmers Market and future Heart of the Hills Heritage Center at Water Street

The goals of KUTS - Clay South include:

  • Improve walkability and bike-ability throughout Kerrville
  • Create a trail model that may be replicated in other parts of Kerrville
  • Harness the youthful, vibrant energy realized on Clay Street and incorporate into City branding and identity development
  • Recognize and celebrate existing qualities that make Kerrville special

The Trailblazer

The Trailblazer was our initial fundraising event held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Plant Haus 2 on Jefferson Street, on a beautiful Hill Country night.  The event included a chef-prepared pig roast, beer and wine, live music, a series of PechaKucha presentations (www.pechakucha.org), an introduction to the KUTS concept, and a silent auction.  Through the generous support of ticket purchasers, sponsors, and donors, The Trailblazer raised nearly $15,000 in funds to be applied toward trail design.

Pilot Trail - KUTS: Clay South

KUTS designers Alissa Priebe and David Cater of OUTPOSTS-LA have completed the Concept Master Plan for the first pilot trail for KUTS:  Clay South!

KUTS is now implementing parts of the Clay South pilot trail, one baby step at a time.  The current focus is to connect downtown to the Doyle Neighborhood, via Clay, Jefferson, and Hays Streets:

    Second Trail - KUTS: Doyle

With input from the Board, staff and volunteers of the Doyle Community Center, KUTS has completed a draft design for a second trail, KUTS: Doyle.

This trail uses custom designed markers to designate culturally significant sites throughout Kerrville's Doyle neighborhood, including the seven historical 'juke joints' that once operated as the community centers of the neighborhood.  KUTS: Doyle will connect to KUTS: Clay South via Jefferson and Hays Streets.
